I’ve been taking a few moments recently to do some simple sketching.. rather than using the dedicated Cintiq, I’ve tried my hand at the PaperĀ app and Pencil from www.fiftythree.com.

Fitfythree has the ‘Pencil’ which can be purchased from yout local Apple store for around $60. I have the creative cloud apps for the iPad but honestly, the fiftythree app and Pencil are designed to work together, the pencil has an eraser end and motion and drawing are fluid and precise. Connection is via bluetooth and the Pencil charges via usb, really simple and easy… i’ve been using it over a couple weeks and have yet to recharge.
The Paper app for the iPad is really well done as well, connects fluidly to the Mix site where you can share your ideas and others can ‘Remix’ them… the usual tools are present, pencil, pen , marker, paint, and the circular mixing palette offers a bit of a tighter integration than Adobe’s offerings which usually lead to other screens and additional selections just to change colours. Exporting to your traditional desktop is easy with built in iPad options, sending to the cloud for Remixing is a single swipe as well.
